Lorna Hanson, M.S.
Virginia Licensed Hearing Aid Specialist
Lorna earned her Master of Science in speech pathology and audiology from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in Honolulu, Hawaii, and received her Bachelor of Arts in music therapy from Colorado State University.
She first became interested in hearing impairment and audiology while pursuing her undergraduate degree, as several of her music therapy clients had hearing loss in addition to other disabilities. After graduating, she began her career as a registered music therapist at Sunland Training Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida – a residential facility for severely intellectually and physically disabled children and adults. Since many of her clients had hearing loss, she frequently turned to the staff audiologist with questions seeking a greater understanding. When she moved to Honolulu, Hawaii where her Navy husband was stationed, she made the decision to continue her education in audiology.
“I love working in this field! There are few things as rewarding as improving a person’s quality of life through better hearing. To see a patient’s smile when we finish fitting an aid and they hear the clock ticking, or to learn of their delight at hearing the leaves rustle when they are out in the woods is simply inspiring.”
After recently relocating from Michigan to Virginia, she earned her Virginia hearing aid specialist license and further updated her audiology knowledge of new research in the field through continuing education coursework. Lorna is a member of the International Hearing Society and the American Tinnitus Society.
After years of moving around the world and across the U.S., Lorna and her husband Steve are happy to be settled in beautiful Virginia in their forever home. They hope their children, two daughters and a son, will someday settle down close by. In her spare time, Lorna loves to garden, sew, read and play the piano.
